Smiles That Shine Through the Teen Years
The teen years are the most common time for orthodontic treatment in Washington, DC.
The Benefits of Straighter Smiles
Dr. JC can recognize spacing, crowding, bite, and alignment issues in this age range. Also, your teen's bone and jaw structure has formed enough to support orthodontic treatment.
As your teenager goes through a transformative phase, orthodontics can improve their smile and boost their confidence. Here's why orthodontic treatment is beneficial for teens:
Aesthetic Appeal
Adolescence is a time when appearance and self-confidence are crucial. Improving your teen's smile helps them feel more confident as they navigate life.
Correcting Misalignments
Orthodontic treatment can address common problems like crooked teeth, gaps, and overcrowding. By aligning your teen's teeth, they'll improve their oral health and prevent potential dental issues down the road.
Teen-Friendly Options
Teens can choose the latest and greatest options to straighten their smiles at our Washington, DC, office. From traditional metal braces to clear aligners, Dr. JC will help your teen make the best choice for their needs.
Metal Braces
Modern metal braces are smaller and more comfortable than ever. That means teens won’t have to worry about bulky brackets and irritation as they straighten their smiles.
Clear Braces
Clear braces work the same way as metal ones but use ceramic, tooth-colored material. That means they blend in with your teen’s smile, so they’re much less obvious.
Since ceramic braces may break slightly easier and are a little more expensive than metal braces, Dr. JC may not recommend them to everyone.
Invisalign®
The Invisalign system uses a series of fully customized, clear trays called aligners. These aligners are nearly invisible and totally removable.
Made of soft plastic, the aligners provide a more comfortable orthodontic experience at Ivy City Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics. There’ll be little to no friction or abrasions to the inside of your teen’s mouth.
Each week your teen will switch their aligner for the next in the set. When your teen wears the aligners for the 20-22 hours per day recommended by Dr. JC, their teeth will gradually move into the desired positions.
Invisalign works best for mild to moderate orthodontic issues and may not be an option if Dr. JC recommends more severe correction for your teen.
